My undying (and at points obsessive) love for you has endured many grueling years but has ultimately paid off! To celebrate your special day, oh future baby daddy of mine, let us look at my most loved parts of your career thus far<3>

Only You (1994)

Who can turn down RDJ in a cheesy 90s romantic comedy?! He plays a charming American man who falls in love with Marisa Tomei's character, even though she is on a mad hunt for another man she's never met. I love this film because these two has splendid chemistry and RDJ is at his most charming.

 Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

I consider this movie to be RDJ's true comeback after his April 2001 arrest. At that time he did not go to jail but was put on probation for the next three years and his movies between then and this one I didn't enjoy as much. (Those films include The Singing Detective, which was weird, & Gothika where, I must add, is where he met his wife Susan). This movie is the most well written & best casted film he's ever been in, in my opinion. You should all see it for the simple fact that it was written & directed by Shane Black, who also the director & co writer of Iron Man 3. Want to know why IM3 looks so good? Its because of Black. ;)

                      The Pick-up Artist (1987)

This was RDJ's first leading role! This will always be one of my favorites, despite the inclusion of Molly Ringwald. (I cannot stand her in any film, so its a big deal when I say that I thoroughly enjoy this movie.) It takes place mainly in my own neighborhood, the Upper West Side, as well as other locations such as Coney Island and Atlantic City. He plays Jack Jericho, a sweet talking womanizer who meets a woman who will do anything to stay away from him. Key scenes include him in a towel trying his pick-up lines on his reflection in the mirror.

Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus  (2006)

This is one of the strangest films RDJ has ever done. Nicole Kidman costars as the photographer Diane Arbus, who was known for black and white photos of deviant or circus folk-like people. This film is pure fiction, and explores what might have happened if Arbus fell in love with the strange & "deformed" man living in the apartment above her. RDJ as her neighbor, Lionel, is heartbreaking and odd, a performance you must see. 

Ally McBeal: Season Four (2000-2001)

I have many "feels" about this show, this particular season, and RDJ's performance. First off, this is my favorite role he has ever done, ever. You might notice that there is a lack of Tony Stark on this blog post. That is because the amount of charisma and love Tony has for Pepper does not compare in any way for the way RDJ's character Larry Paul feels about Ally McBeal.

Larry Paul is a fellow lawyer in Boston, and is the first real relationship Ally has on the show. He loves her in a way that puts to shame every other romance. He has a tortured past but loves Ally with every fiber of his being. He also has the best lines and scenes of the whole series.

RDJ was nominated for an Emmy and won a Golden Globe for his performance on Ally McBeal. He also was a featured writer and singer on the show soundtrack! He sang & played the piano on many episodes, melting your heart. Sadly, he was arrested in November and April of the season resulting in him being written off the show before the last episode. That will always be a major disappointment in my life because Ally & Larry were supposed to be married in the last episode but that all changed after the second arrest.

How Ryan Gosling Feels About "Hey Girl" Memes

This past weekend I was able to sit down with many talented movie stars at press days for the films "Olympus Has Fallen" and "The Place Beyond the Pines". You can look forward to those interviews over at The Daily BLAM!

One of the people I talked with was none other than Ryan Gosling. He mentioned how glad he was that his "Drive" costume has now become so iconic that people dress up as him for Halloween or at Comic Con. 

I then brought up his "Hey Girl" memes, and how he felt about it. Did he think it was funny? Weird? Flattering? His response was:

"You know that picture of Fabio on the roller coaster getting hit in the face with the pigeon?  I feel like that pigeon: wrong place, wrong time."

That's not exactly the comparison I would make personally....if anything I would think he's more Fabio than Pigeon...

In any case, we still love the memes Ryan, even if you don't.

Disney's 'Oz' Balloon in Central Park

One of the reasons why I love living in New York City is that there is always something exciting happening that wouldn't happen anywhere else. This morning Disney launched a hot air balloon in Central Park to promote their new film 'Oz The Great and Powerful'!

This part of Central Park is also right near my apartment! I think this is a brilliant marketing tool because now as the balloon flies over Manhattan, every person young or old will see the balloon and become interested in this new movie coming out this weekend.

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Bookish Journal #5: A Typical Not So Typical Day

Today was one of the more chaotic days in my life. I had to take my cat in for surgery and then had two press events before going to work at night. I love being a freelance journalist because it means I have the time to be a part of the movie industry that not many people get to do.

First off though, I dropped my cat Pan off at the veterinarian to be spayed at 8 in the morning. I admit that I was incredibly nervous about leaving her for the first time. I have never thought myself to be maternal but in so many ways this cat has become a soul mate of mine and I was worried. But the deed had to be done so I hugged her goodbye and took the subway downtown to the first event.

Earlier this week I saw a screening of 'Stoker', a psychological thriller of sorts from critically acclaimed director Park Chan-Wook. It stars Mia Wasikowska as a young woman who discovers a dark past about her family as well as haunting secret about herself. Nicole Kidman plays her fragile mother and Matthew Goode as her seductive uncle. Today's press event included interviews with the director, Goode, and supposedly Wasikowska but she failed to show at the last moment which is typical of these events unfortunately enough.

Director Park was so inspiring to listen to as he spoke about his interpretation of a script and the message he wants to get across to audience. Goode is simply a great guy who was quick to defend his performance in 'Watchmen', even though that had nothing to do with this movie. You'll be able to read the interviews in full on The Daily BLAM soon.

Afterwards I had to go uptown to The Playwright Irish Pub for the press day for '21 And Over', a new comedy by the writers of 'The Hangovers'.  Usually press events are held as expensive hotels such as The Waldorf or The Ritz-Carlton, but this one was held at a bar! I loved the set up of beer cups, mardi gras beads, with poker chips and cards. 

I was most excited to meet Miles Tellers, who plays Miller in '21 And Over' because of his previous roles as playing Willard in 'Footloose' both on broadway and in the 2011 remake. Against popular opinion I love the hell out of the remake, especially the character of Willard because he was always my favorite part of the show and Tellers portrayed him perfectly. At the end of the interview I was able to tell him this and he signed my blu-ray of 'Footloose'. He also complimented me on my Iron Man phone case and called me a "pretty nerd". Another celebrity crush met!

Right after this interview I had to race across Manhattan to pick up Pan from the vet and bring her home. She has a shaved stomach and isn't feeling well, but is especially pissed for having to wear a collar around her neck. She is still however as feisty as ever playing with her toys so I'm not worried.

And so that is a typical day for me, in the way that none of my days are very typical. I don't have a set schedule which makes life interesting. If you're been keeping up with my latest blog posts then you'll notice that today I did not mention the detox I have been currently doing. I realized that after I felt so sick yesterday that I needed not to put so much stress on my body. I will continue eating better and eating as clean as possible, but I'm going to add coffee back into my diet (Thank god!) The detox was worth it because I did lose weight and I learned more about how to balance my diet. I just did not enjoy eating the same foods over and over again.

2013 Academy Awards Predictions & Wishes

I have not seen all the movies up for Oscar nominations so this list is a compilation of my own personal and very biased opinions in every category. I like guessing who actually wins compared to who I want to win. In the past I have had excellent Academy Season (such as when Lord of the Rings Return oft he King won 11 Oscars) and I have had bad years ( when 'Gran Torino' was snubbed and Sandra Bullock won Best Actress, events I will never stop complaining about).

This year I have strong opinions on certain matters, such as Daniel Day-Lewis should win Best Actor hands down for his heart breaking portrayal of Lincoln. I also would love for 'Argo' to win but Ben Affleck was snubbed for Best Director so I am uncertain that he'll win the Oscar. However, most of all I want the Disney's 'Paperman' to win Best Animated Short Film (for obvious reasons). 

And so without further adieu, here is who I think should/will take home Oscars tonight:

Best Picture:
       'Argo' (I don't think it will win but it by far the best movie I've seen all year. Lincoln might win)

Actor in a Leading Role:
        Daniel Day-Lewis (Without a single doubt in my mind)

Actress in a Leading Role:
         Jennifer Lawrence (I have no solid opinion on this, anybody could win at this point)

Actor in a Supporting Role:
         Christoph Waltz (He will probably win but I would also be happy with Tommy Lee Jones)

Actress in a Supporting Role:
          Anne Hathaway (Hands down.)

Animated Feature Film:
          'Wreck-It-Ralph' (This movie should win because it was the best but I have a feeling 'Brave' will)

Cinematography:
           'Life of Pi' (This will probably win but 'Django' equally deserves it)

Costume Design:
           'Les Miserables'

Directing:
           Steven Spielberg (Affleck & Tarantino were both snubbed, so Spielberg will easily win)

Documentary Feature Film:
           'Searching For Sugar Man' (I didn't see any of these films but this has the most buzz online)

Documentary Short:
            'Open Heart' (Same as above)

Film Editing:
            'Argo' (This film had me me literally on the edge of my seat. It NEEDS to win this.)

Foreign Language Film:

             'Amour' (This was also nominated for best picture, so it'll probably take home this category)

Makeup & Hairstyling:
              'The Hobbit' (I did not enjoy this movie but the Academy seems to like the team so perhaps)

Music:
              'Lincoln' (John Williams did the score, enough said.)

Original Song:

              'Skyfall' by Adele (I mean really, how can this song not win?)

Production Design:
              'Life of Pi'

Animated Short Film:

              'Paperman' ( 'Adam & Dog' is the only other film that could win but I would be shocked if 'Paperman' didn't win.)

Live Action Short Film:
               'Curfew' (I haven't seen any of these but this movie has the most buzz.)

Sound Editing:
                'Argo' (But 'Django' equally deserves it)

Sound Mixing:
               'Les Miserables' (They shot all the music LIVE. Seriously.) 

Visual Effects:
                'The Avengers' ('Life of Pi' might win because it's a favorite. 'The Hobbit' had horrible effects other than the scenes with Gollum.)

Adapted Screenplay:
                 'Argo'

Original Screenplay:

            'Django Unchained' (Tarantino 100% deserves this but the Oscar might go to 'Zero Dark Thirty')

Super Bowl Movie Ads for IRON MAN 3 and THE FAST & FURIOUS 6 Rank High

IRON MAN 3 and THE FAST & FURIOUS 6 Super Bowl advertisements scored big. In a targeted survey of  nearly 3,000 active moviegoers conducted by MovieTickets.com, IRON MAN 3 rated as the #1 movie-related Super Bowl commercial most remembered; and the spot for THE FAST & FURIOUS 6 most convinced moviegoers to see it in theaters when released.

MovieTickets.com, the leading global provider of advance movie ticketing, conducted a survey of active moviegoers to rank the most effective movie commercials aired during yesterday’s broadcast of the Super Bowl. The survey targeted actual moviegoers to determine which spot cut through the media clutter, and how effective those commercials were at convincing viewers to buy tickets.

Of the nearly 3,000 MovieTickets.com registered users that were surveyed, 65% said they watched the entire game from kick off to the end.  Of those that watched the entire game, MovieTickets.com collected the following data which includes data about social media usage and YouTube:

What movie ads made it through the media clutter?

·         The commercial for Iron Man 3 was the most remembered, with 79% saying they remembered seeing the ad during the game followed closely by the commercial for The Fast & Furious 6 (77%). The complete list is below:

Star Trek Into Darkness – 69%

Oz The Great and Powerful – 68%

World War Z – 48% 

·         Men remembered the commercial for Iron Man 3 most, followed closely by The Fast & Furious 6.

·         Women also remembered Iron Man 3 most, followed closely by The Fast & Furious 6.

·         The commercial for The Fast & Furious 6 (84%) and Iron Man 3 (82%) nearly tied for the top spot of most remembered by those under the age of 25.

·         The adults age 25+ had a little different view from the under 25 crowd with Iron Man 3 (74%) followed closely by The Fast & Furious 6 (70%). 

·         Among the women under 25 years of age that took the survey, the commercial for Iron Man 3 and The Fast & Furious 6 (74%) tied for the most remembered movie advertisement.

·         Among the men under 25 years of age that took the survey, the commercial for The Fast & Furious (86%) and Iron Man 3 (84%) was the most remembered movie advertisement.

What movie commercial was most effective at encouraging the viewers to see the film in the theaters?

·         The Fast & Furious 6 was the most effective movie advertisement.

·         The Fast & Furious 6 had the highest effectiveness among the men in encouraging them to see the movie in the theater

·         The Fast & Furious 6 had the highest effectiveness among the females in encouraging them to see the movie in the theater

·         The Fast & Furious 6 had the highest effectiveness among the population under the age of 25 in encouraging them to see the movie in the theater

·         Iron Man 3 had the highest effectiveness among the adults 25 years of age and older in encouraging them to see the movie in the theater

Mobile Apps & Social Media Participation

The topic of the new Star Trek Into Darkness mobile app was a favorite among MovieTickets.com survey respondents. Overall, only 3% of survey respondents that watched the entire game also downloaded the new Star Trek Into Darkness app.

·         No Surprise. The app was downloaded more by the under 25 population.

Social media is still a hot topic for MovieTickets.com survey respondents. Overall, 67 % of survey respondents said they used social media (e.g. Facebook; Twitter, etc.) while watching the game.

·         69% of males used social media during the game.

·         66% of females used social media during the game.

·         76% of the Under 25 audience used social media during the game.

·         59% of the adults 25+ used social media during the game.

 Power of YouTube

58% of overall MovieTickets.com respondents (whether they watched the entire game or not) rushed on to YouTube to continue watching SuperBowl Ads.  The film related commercial they were most eager to search and watch again was Iron Man 3 (59%) followed closely by the commercial for The Fast & Furious 6 (51%).

YouTube is still a growing and viable marketing tool. 59 % of overall MovieTickets.com respondents said they Often/Very Often view videos on YouTube.

·         57% of males said they Often/Very Often view videos on YouTube.

·         63% of females said they Often/Very Often view videos on YouTube.

·         72% of the Under 25 audience said they Often/Very Often view videos on YouTube.

·         46% of the adults 25+ said they Often/Very Often view videos on YouTube.

Disney's Paperman: Manhattan, WWII, & a Kiss

As most of my Twitter followers and friends known, Disney's Paperman animated short film was one of the highlights of last year for me. For months I had been following the making of this film because it simply held everything I hold dear. I could not have written a more perfect story for myself, even if I tried. Taking place in Mid-century New York City, there is a chance meeting at a train station, longing across an avenue between two skyscrapers, and the magic of paper?  In short, this is a WWII era romance set in Manhattan all in black white touched with a kiss.

Life doesn't get any better than this:

"Using a minimalist black-and-white style, the short follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him."

Before Midnight: What Are The Odds?

Today new pictures were released for "Before Midnight", the third movie after "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset". You can check them all out at The Daily BLAM!, and I could not help but suppress a squeal at work today when I saw these images. I have been a long time of the previous films, and I am very excited yet very scared for this third film.

I won't give you a synopsis of the movies, you can read the Wikipedia page for that. However I would like to take a moment to talk about the odds of this film being good. 

The ending for "Before Sunset" is so perfect in it's pacing, tension, and meaning that when the screen goes dark you cannot help but feel longing, excitement and stil satisfaction. If you are familiar with the ending or don't mind being spoiled, check out this image. 

Is there a chance that this film could be just as good, if not better as it's precursors? Ethan Hawke and Julie Deply are back, and have co written the screenplay with the trilogy's director Richard Linklater. These are small, simple films that each take place over a course of only so many hours. These movies are personal projects that mean something to the creators. Will they take the characters and give them the happy ending they deserve, or will our heart strings be ripped apart at the seams and leave us with another tearful parting?

I'm rambling, but I would like to know what fellow fans think. Will Celine and Jesse finally get to be together, once and for all?

2013 in Movies: "My Blueberry Nights"

The second film I watched tonight was "My Blueberry Nights". This film came out in 2007 and stars my favorite musician Norah Jones (which is why I wanted to see it so badly) as well as Jude Law, Natalie Portman, and Rachel Weisz. According to IMDB the plot is described as "A young woman takes a soul-searching journey across America to resolve her questions about love while encountering a series of offbeat characters along the way."

Quick Review: This is a very simple movie that feels almost shallow. Norah Jones is sweet in this movie and feels as though she is acting as herself, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Her character was just not given enough material for Jones to work with. The story is sweet and had potential but it was just not enough. Portman and Weisz are brilliant as always, and Law is very endearing as the owner of a New York City cafe that befriends Jones. However, the film left me unsatisfied and rather bored. 

Also, awful title. Sounds like a porno.

Stars: 2

P.S. -I looked up the cafe featured in the movie because I wanted to check it out in person, however it has been turned into a hair salon. *sigh*

2013 in Movies: "Love and Other Drugs"

Tonight I watched two movies, the first being "Love and Other Drugs". This film came out in 2010 and stars Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. According to Wikipedia the plot is as follows: "Love and Other Drugs is a 2010 romantic comedy film written and directed by Edward Zwick and based on the non-fiction book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy".

Quick Review: I did not like this movie as much as I had hoped. At first I really enjoyed it but after thinking about it I realized that the film is rather 2 dimensional with not a lot of material for the actors to work with. Yes Hathaway played a "sick" 26 year old girl with Parkinson's dieseas but we hardly actually see her as "sick" besides one scene where she wasn't able to pick up her medication.

Hathaway and Gyllenhaal have great chemistry, however he said of his co-star "“She could probably talk to a wall and have chemistry. The highlights of the film are seeing Hathaway play outside of her Sugary sweet persona and the guest apparence of her breasts, many times over. However, the film did leave me lacking.

Day 8 of Christmas: A Hobbit Dream Comes True

Yesterday I had the chance to interview my idol, director Peter Jackson. Mr. Jackson is know for directing the Academy Award Winning series "The Lord of the Rings" and, personally to me for saving my life. Earlier this year I had written a blog post on how out of all the celebrities I could chose to meet, I'd chose Peter Jackson. I'm still in shock over all this but expect a full length and detailed post soon. But I could not think of a better Christmas present than meeting a man I have long admired and respected.

Day 7 of Christmas: Make It A Tarantino Holiday

Last night I attended a press screening of "Django Unchained", the new Quentin Tarantino film starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christopher Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson. Due to the embargo I am not allowed to speak much about it except that I loved the movie tremendously and that I highly recommend seeing it. The film comes out Christmas Day, so if you're like my family and go to the movies every Christmas morning, treat your family to a Tarantino Holiday.

Hello guys! This late Sunday afternoon I’m sitting on a train back to the city after spending the weekend with my family in Jersey. One of the main reasons I visited was because one of my favorite people Angela (@angelaplz) was also visiting the area. You might know Angela as my soccer loving, often yelling, science briantic best friend from college. She lives back in upstate Jersey now so haven’t been able to see each other for nearly six months.

Angela and I spent Saturday catching up on all the drama and events we’ve missed as well as lunch and coffee with my mom before settling down to do our favorite pastime: picking a weird ass movie on Netflix and yell things at the television. Somehow we always end up watching strange films such as “Four Faced Liar” which turned out to be about lesbians or “Timer” which is about injecting a device into your arm to detect when you’ll meet your soul mate.  This weekend’s pick was “Reality Bites” with Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, and Steve Zahn. For a film set in the 90s about post college misfit and finding true love, it won positive reviews from both of us.

Saturday night my family visited my other favorite female, my cousin Kim (@NotAKennedy) and her dad, my Uncle Ray. Uncle Ray and my dad are best friends and we all have the best pizza nights. This particular one included a story about my parents accidentally visiting a ship owned by a cult (“Only dumbass white people join cults.” –Kim) and then watching “How To Train Your Dragon” on Telemundo. It was a very successful night indeed.

 

Currently:

Reading: “Story of a Million Years” by David Huddle. I found this book for a dollar at Book Off, a store run by Asians in Midtown where I find the best and cheapest movies and novels. The story featured a group of characters and explored how the actions of each other affected one another over decades. A simple and quick read, but no less profound and enjoyable. The title of this post is a quote from the book.

Listening To: Christmas Piano Jazz on Spotify. I mean, what else is there to say? It’s perfect.

Watching: “Gossip Girl” season one. I had never watched this show but I read the books when they first started coming out years ago. I stopped reading because the characters are very catty and eventually there was no one left to sleep with one they’ve fucked everyone they know. I wanted to give the show a shot however because I heard the New York location shots are beautiful and they indeed are. I’m admittedly addicted now but we’ll see how long I can stomach the petty drama

Wanting To: Find my center. I’m feeling very lost right now. Not in an overbearing or bad way, just one of those….misplaced feelings. I did however, officially stop biting my nails which doesn’t sound like much but it’s a personal feat. From a small age I started biting them to be more like my older cousin and I never stopped, resulting in being embarrassed about them my entire life. Once I moved to the city I wanted to sop, and them I simply did. Score one for me =P

And so life goes on, much as it has been. I’m feeling restless, and am hoping for something big to come my way. If it does, you will all be the first to know. =)

My new job at MoviePass is pretty amazing actually. I'm the Social Media & Events Director where I get to talk about movies all day long. I also tried fondue for the first time with Spider writer Dan Slott. (@DanSlott) It all started because I told him that I had a dream that we went out for fondue and so we made it happen. It was quite ironic because we had it on the hottest day of the year so far, but nevertheless it was delicious. I mean, how can you say no to bread and cheese? We felt like Peggy Carter and Howard Stark =P

Currently:

Reading: Peter and the Starcatcher Annotated Script of the Broadway Play, Strangers in Paradise vol 5 by Terry Moore, and One Fifth Ave by Candice Bushnell. Okay so that last one is 100% a guilty pleasure. I need something to read on a train ride home and picked up this chick fiction at a train station bookstore that did not require a lot of thought process to get through. So far it has way too many characters that are fighting over a 20 million dollar apartment. I wish I had $20 million to fight with.

Strangers is brilliant as always, and if you haven't read this series, I suggest giving it a shot. For years I was reluctant to start it because I didn't quite like the art. Now I'm in love with not only the art but the complicated characters as well. Pick it up.

Peter is the script of the play I loved so dearly, and I was dying to get my hands on this book so I could have a mini speech Molly gives:

"And when I marry, I shall make it very clear to this person-that sentimentality is not on the calendar. He will have to lump it, or leave it. And if he should leave, I'll stay a spinster and pin my hair back and volunteer weekends as hospital. And I will love words for their own sake, like "hyacinth" and "Piccadilly" and "onyx". And I'll have a good old dog, and think what I like, and be part of a different sort of family, with friends, you know? -who understand that things are only worth what you're willing to give up for them."

Listening to: I made Barney's New Year's Eve Playlist from How I Met Your Mother on Spotify and it's been on repeat for a while. My favorites include "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi and "Sail Away"by Styx. 

Watching: This week I saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Brave. Although the writing for Abe was just awful, the cinematography was stunning and overall entertaining. Brave I greatly disliked though. The story was shallow and everything felt forced. This week I'm going to see Ted on Tuesday, another screening on Wednesday (which Pietro hasn't told me what it is yet) and then Spider-Man again on Thursday! I love working in the movie business. ^.^ I also have been having a Digimon: Season 1 marathon with my brother. We are amazed at how good it still is after all these years.

Wanting to: Mhmm. Get back into running shape. Start eating a more balanced diet. I'm a vegetarian, and often I don't get the nutrients and protein I need and as a result I feel lethargic and sick. So this week my goal is to eat MUCH better. I also want to do really well at my job and prove to them that I am invaluable. 

My goal this week is also to be more understanding with people. This next month will try my patience more than I'd like. In the past, when people become too much for me to handle, I simply stop talking to them. Instead, I am learning to just shut up and bear with it. Just because certain circumstances hurt me, I can't expect to be happy with everything. It's just life.
